Foundation

The Barolo & Castles Foundation was set up in September 2011 with the aim of managing in a direct and comprehensive manner the “castle system” that develops around the WiMu, the Wine Museum of Barolo, taking care of the conservation, maintenance, management and promotion of castles, historical residences and other museum complexes in the Langhe and Roero area.

The project, promoted by the Tourism and Culture Departments of the Piedmont Region, started with the immediate and full availability of the municipalities of Barolo, Roddi and Serralunga d’Alba, joined in 2019 by the municipality of Magliano Alfieri. The castle of Serralunga d’Alba is managed by the Foundation thanks to a Special Public Private Partnership (PSPP) Agreement with the Piedmont Regional Museums Directorate to which the property, which is state-owned, is entrusted.
The Foundation takes care of the comprehensive management and promotion of the estates, dealing with openings, educational activities, promotion and maintenance.
Members of the Foundation are the Municipalities of Barolo, Roddi, Serralunga d’Alba, the Langhe Monferrato Roero Tourist Board, the Langhe Monferrato and Roero Tourist Consortium (founders); the Piedmont Region and the Municipality of Magliano Alfieri (patrons).
The managed castles, and the museums housed within, are iconic expressions of the history and tradition of the Langhe and Roero. The Falletti di Barolo municipal castle with the Wi.Mu. – Wine Museum and the Wi.La. – Wine Labels Collection. The castle of Serralunga d’Alba, one of the best-preserved examples of a 14th-century noble castle in Piedmont. The municipal castle of Roddi, with the space dedicated to Giacomo Morra, king of Alba’s white truffle. The Magliano Alfieri municipal castle with its Plaster ceiling museum and Landscape Theatre.

We know we are fortunate to be involved in such beautiful work. And we realize that what we do is truly one-of-a-kind. We give it all our passion, enthusiasm, competence, and dedication. One of the best moments we see is when a child who visits with his school tells us he will “bring his parents too.”
